The Middlesex 7s Festival features competitions for men, women and students at every level of the game from National right through to Merit Table and social 7s, with tiered entry to ensure a level playing field.
All competitions are played in pool rounds followed by knock-out rounds to ensure that all teams get as many games as possible.

Competition Formats & Qualification Criteria

Middlesex 7s Open Cup*  Introduced to the Middlesex 7s format last year, the Open Cup allows open teams to compete alongside traditional club teams in pool rounds with the pool winners progressing to knockout finals. The winner will qualify for the Tier 1 RFU 24/sevens Series. The competition is recommended for teams playing at league levels 3, 4 and 5.

Middlesex Women’s 7s Open Cup*  For all senior women’s club and open teams, and women’s university teams. The winner will receive the Flynn Rose Bowl and qualify for the RFU 24/sevens Women’s Cup Competition.

Middlesex Club 7s Cup  This competition for bonafide club teams forms the core of the traditional Middlesex 7s and is designed to ensure that all competing clubs get as many games as possible, with the winners, runners-up and third-placed teams in each pool progressing to knock-out rounds of the Cup, Bowl and Plate respectively. This competition is recommended for teams playing at League Level 5 and below. Clubs playing at Merit Table level may also enter.

1st placed pool clubs to playoff for the Derek Mann Cup
2nd placed pool clubs to play for the Plate Trophy
3rd placed pool clubs to playoff for the Bowl Trophy

Middlesex 7s Vase  A tiered competition for clubs playing at league level 9 and below. Pool round winners will play off for the Vase Trophy and 2nd placed pool clubs will play for the Jug Trophy.

Clubs who are eligible to enter the Vase Competition but wish to play at a higher level may enter the Cup Competition.
Please note: Student and non-league teams may enter the Cup Competition but will not be eligible to enter the Vase Competition.

Middlesex Social & Merit 7s  For all clubs playing at Merit Table level, and to open / social teams of a similar level. Pool rounds will be played, with the pool winners playing for the Carnival Cup.

Middlesex Super BUCS 7s  For university teams qualifying for the Super BUCS League and will be played as a single “round robin” pool competition to win the Super BUCS 7s Trophy.

Middlesex Student Men’s 7s  Student teams from across the County and beyond who are playing below Super BUCS level are invited to enter this competition which is run in two pools, followed by knockout rounds.

Middlesex Emerging Women’s 7s  For all junior and emerging women’s club and student teams. The winner will receive the Women’s Vase Trophy.

Middlesex 02 Touch Rugby Tournament  This is a mixed six-a-side fun/social competition for mixed touch rugby teams.

In 2018, the Festival will take place on Saturday 5th May
